How did we get here? Part 4
After the disappointment from Indiana, I was trying my best not to doubt the process. His timing and plan is everything. I just kept my prayers heading up.
This win restored my confidence in the plan and I couldn't quit thanking Him. I felt like we were back in the game. There is no doubt in my mind that God had a hand in that win and we had to keep going and building the boat.
Ok. What next God?
Kentucky State Fair is always our quickest turn around with less than three days. This would be the toughest and most emotional show thus far. Family was the competition and it was stiff.
Arriving in the middle of the night, we slowly set up and unloaded the cattle. Running on adrenaline and a short cat nap, we made it through the "settle in" day.
As we did our best to navigate the logistics of show day with a one man fit crew, somehow, by the grace of God, we managed. The cattle were well presented and we never felt rushed.
The heifer show was wrapping up and we headed towards the ring. It became blatantly obvious once we got the two bulls together who was coming out on top.
Rightfully so, my brother won the class and then the division. We stayed on his heels and came out of division as the Reserve Champion.
There were only a few older bulls and then the final drive began. The judge was quick to select his champion and David moved Pacer into position.
The judge took his last look and immediately walked towards David. We had just won Reserve Champion Bull at the Kentucky State Fair and ended our state fair series.
We were committed to showing at only two national shows that fall. The first was Keystone and the second was North American.
I continued to prepare Pacer as best I could, but an injury was sustained just two weeks before we left for Pennsylvania. He was mostly healed when we left, but the medication wreaked havoc on his hair coat. I was upset with how he looked and did not feel like he was ready.
We went anyway and to my disbelief we came home with the Spring Calf Champion Heifer.
The bull may not have won any honors, but we would not have gone to the show had it not been for him.
We came home and pushed the bull harder than we had all summer. I felt good about him when we left for Louisville, He was something I could be proud of. This show was laid back for us. We chose to focus on family time and not stress over the show.
My brother was waiting for us when we pulled in. His bull had just won Reserve Division at the American Royal and he looked phenomenal. Rightfully so, his bull won the division at North American.
We left Louisville and began to play the waiting game.
Did we gather enough points for a Show Bull of the Year Title? Did we pull it off?
